Four boccia medals for Singapore at the 2026 Asian Para Games

4medals3silver1bronze

Singapore finished the Aichi-Nagoya boccia competition with three silvers and one bronze. Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha and Aloysius Gan added the BC3 mixed pairs silver on 24 October after Japan won the final 4-2. Earlier in the Games, Gan and Jovin Tan earned individual silvers, while Jeralyn Tan took bronze. The result meant every member of Singapore’s four-athlete boccia squad came home with a medal.

A conversation starter for your school

Try asking students what changes when a player competes alone and then with a partner. Who makes the next decision? How does a team agree on a plan? A short discussion before a practical activity helps students notice the thinking behind the result, rather than only the colour of the medal.

Singapore takes BC3 pairs gold at the Seoul world championships

The Seoul 2026 World Boccia Championships brought Singapore a BC3 pairs world title. The International Paralympic Committee’s review also highlighted the breadth of the competition: athletes from 16 nations reached the podium across 11 medal events. Indonesia led the gold-medal standings with three titles. For Singapore readers following the sport, the pairs result is another reason to look beyond individual competition.

Look for the decision before the throw

When introducing a pairs activity, give teammates time to agree on the purpose of each shot. Are they trying to get closer, protect a useful position or move another ball? That shared decision gives a beginner something concrete to practise, even without the accuracy of an international player.

Understand turn order and scoring

Jovin Tan earns his first World Cup gold in Montreal

Jovin Tan won the men’s BC1 title at the Montreal 2026 World Boccia Cup, completing his campaign without a defeat across six matches. The Singapore Disability Sports Council reported a 3-1 victory over South Korea’s Sungjoon Jung in the final. Singapore also earned a women’s BC1 bronze through Jeralyn Tan. The two podium finishes came in separate individual events.

A useful focus for a first session

Beginners do not need to chase an international standard on day one. Start with a repeatable release and notice where the ball stops. Changing one thing at a time gives a player a clearer sense of progress. For a community group, allow enough practice turns before introducing a competitive score.

Check the April 2026 revision of the World Boccia rules

World Boccia’s rules page lists the English 2025 to 2028 rules as version 1.2.1, updated on 23 April 2026. It also provides rules questions and answers. If your group is preparing for formal competition, use the governing body’s current document and the event organiser’s requirements rather than relying on an older handout or a short online explanation.

For teachers and programme organisers

A beginner workshop may simplify the activity to help a group learn. Make those adaptations clear before play starts, especially when discussing turn order, boundaries or scoring. Keep the workshop instructions distinct from the requirements of a recognised competition. Our beginner guide introduces the game; the official rulebook remains the formal reference.

Gan and Nurulasyiqah win ASEAN Para Games pairs gold

Aloysius Gan and Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha won the BC3 mixed pairs final at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, beating the host pair 3-1. ActiveSG Circle reported that both Singaporeans had also won their individual events earlier in the competition. The report was published on 25 January 2026, during the Games held that month.

A team activity with room to reflect

For a corporate session, give a pair a simple communication routine: agree on the target, let one person play, then review the result together. The discussion afterwards can be just as useful as the score. Ask whether the plan was clear and whether both teammates had a chance to contribute.

Paris 2024: Jeralyn Tan wins Singapore’s first Paralympic boccia medal

Jeralyn Tan won silver in the women’s individual BC1 event on 2 September 2024, securing Singapore’s first Paralympic medal in boccia. In the final, France’s Aurelie Aubert won 5-4. Tan’s result on her Paralympic debut remains a useful starting point for readers discovering the sport and the Singapore athletes who compete in it.

Use the story to open a wider conversation

For a school or community group, move from the result to the practical question of participation. What does someone need to understand the activity, choose a way to play and have a meaningful turn? An inclusive session needs those arrangements, alongside an introduction to the athletes and their achievements.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

What can your group
take from the game?

A result gives you a reason to introduce boccia. The session itself should give each person time to understand it, practise and take part.
